What is WWOOF

Today our WWOOFers come to Synchronicity Farm seeking an authentic ‘working’ farm experience on an idyllic demonstration Permaculture farm set on 33 acres along Orara River, 20km west of Coffs Harbour. We passionately run a social enterprise that has a vision to “Inspire conscious food choices embracing Social, Environmental & Health Benefits of eating artisan, seasonal, local food”. Our mission is to “Design, build and operate an immersive food experience genuinely connecting people to real food values”. We welcome WWOOFers to become part of our family. Join us for experimental learning, exceptional food & comfortable accommodation, genuine friendship with an authentic farming family in a safe, caring & nurturing environment. Work includes animal care, food preservation, storing, packaging etc, fencing, mowing, clearing & cleaning compost. Accommodation – for up to 3 people in our home. Shared meals, all cook together, mixed diet, vegetarians catered for, no smoking, initial stay 6-10 days, longer stays negotiable.

To extend the value that we deliver to WWOOFers on our farm we are restructuring the arrangement to offer concurrent 88 day programs (comprised of learning modules) that allow for the 3 WWOOFers to work on Synchronicity Farm for 30 hours a week in exchange for food, board and education. In exchange for their commitment, we are able to sign the 1263 Immigration form that provides a 2nd year Working Holiday Visa in Australia for travellers who complete the program.

These workers participate in a program that provides them a diverse series of practical skills and theory in Farming, Food, Permaculture and Sustainability.

Synchronicity Farm values the creativity and physical support that these workers provide which has driven us to develop a formalised and structured education and training program that will increase the value being delivered to our WWOOFers by offering the ability to participate in this comprehensive, hands on learning opportunity.

Our intention (over time) is to build purpose designed practical, sustainable and comfortable rooms that offer the WWOOFers that participate their own private living space, a shared bathroom and cooking facility, access to facilities (Water, Power, WIFI) and a series of recreational and fun activities built into the program.

Each learning module is to be offered as a stand alone component with unique support material, exercises and projects to be undertaken, a graduation examination and practical. When completing each learning module, the WWOOFer receives a certificate recognising their achievement. Each WWOOFer will need to register for the courses that they are looking to attend. Availability will be determined by the occupancy levels based on accommodation inventory. Options to access the Webinars, Downloads, Blog and Links will become available to each participant on completion of that
module.

At the time of launch, we can also offer WWOOFers not living on Synchronicity Farm to participate in ‘day programs’ depending on position availability. For schools looking to provide a rich learning and practical environment for students the opportunity to book into day programs will also be made available.

Motivation

  • International workers that form an integral part of Australia’s transient workforce need to be up-skilled
  • Workers that want to come to our farm are essentially untrained therefore need education and support
  • We seek out, attract and retain workers that are engaged and want to learn
  • Levels of productivity and growth of the farm are limited due to the ‘ramp up’ phase of worker knowledge
  • School students are looking for experiences that could assist in leading to work placement opportunities
  • Schools are looking for guidance and help in running quality Agricultural and Agribusiness projects
