Bamboo Fire Circle

In 2012 on a prime position to take in the expansive views of the Orara Valley all the way down to the river, we have planted a bamboo circle with a diameter of 10 meters using what will eventually grow into giant bamboo. It is just starting to ‘find its feet’ in the ground and will begin to shoot strongly now in its third year.

Our intention is to plant out all of the gaps between the green bamboo with a black bamboo to create a strong circular wall to provide shelter and beauty. A conical roof will be constructed to create a natural high ceiling with smoke chimney and fire hood.

In the centre of the bamboo circle we will excavate out the earth to create stairs coming down to a level circular area on which to build our fire circle and outdoor cooking area.

The ultimate use of this area will be to host events around the fire including food experiences, talks from guest speakers, yoga sessions and outdoor cooking workshops (just to name a few).

In good permaculture design every element has multiple uses to increase productivity and this installation will certainly meet this requirement.
